More efficient use of modern renewables and natural gas can reduce Sumatra's dependence on coal resources. ![]() It had a population of 3,092,265 according to the 2010 census 5 and 3,548,228 according to the 2020 census. The province has a land area of 50,160.05 km 2, and a sea area of 3,274.95 km 2. This enormous crater lake consists of an island almost the size of Singapore in its center. It is located on the east coast of central Sumatra and spans to the Barisan Mountains in the west. Our results show that bioenergy deployment can contribute significantly to achieving the greenhouse gas (GHG) targets of 19% and 24% pledged by the Indonesian government. Lake Toba is an extraordinary natural wonder of the world. ![]() The two mitigation scenarios achieve better environmental results at lower system costs. Besides, current development plans are not cost-effective and have high marginal abatement costs for emissions reduction. The results show that, although the national plans consider mitigation actions, they do not reduce coal dependency. Particular focus is put on bioenergy, an energy source that has been often overlooked in previous studies and plans. Luas wilayah dari pulau ini mencapai 473.481 km 2 yang dihuni oleh sekitar 57.940.361 jiwa berdasarkan sensus penduduk yang dilakukan pada tahun 2018. We used the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) software tool to build a power-system expansion model for Sumatra and simulated four scenarios representing a business as usual development, the current development plans, and two mitigation pathways in line with the national climate targets. It is the largest island that is fully within Indonesian territory, as well as the sixth-largest island in the world at 475,807.63 km2 (182,812 mi.2), including. Letak Pulau Sumatera Jika dilihat melalui peta, Sumatera merupakan pulau yang memiliki ukuran yang cukup besar dan terbilang luas. In this study, we investigate cost-optimal pathways for the development of the power sector in line with climate targets. ![]() The Indonesian power sector faces the combined challenge to (i) satisfy growing electricity demand at an affordable cost and (ii) comply with the decarbonization targets committed under the Paris Agreement.
